Matrix 9 - Fundamental

Round layers on short length

Diagram

Overview

We start the construction of the shape from the top. This diagram shows the main sections in black color. We separate the central section. It is marked with a red dot, which means that it is the guide section. It will guide the main silhouette. Then we separate additional blue-colored sections. We start the pivoting rotation from one point and turn the additional sections to the ear first on one and then on the other side. The red arrows show the over-direction back to the previous section and into round geometry. The green pecked line shows the expanded shape. The red pecked arrows show the over-direction into the expanded shape. This diagram explains the construction of the back of the head. First we built the internal part of the shape, which you saw on the front view.

Now we are going to construct the back of the head. First we separate two main sections shown in black color. It is the central section. It is marked with a red dot which means that it is the guide section. We follow it with the silhouette of the back of the head. Then we separate additional blue-colored sections. The pivoting rotation starts from the center and goes to one side towards the ear as far as the vertical section, and then to the other side as far as the vertical section which divides the hair of the sides from the hair of the back of the head. The red arrows show the over-direction. Each section is directed back to the previous one and into round geometry. The green pecked line shows the expanded shape. The red pecked arrow shows the over-direction into the expanded shape.

Overview

We start with the first pivoting section. Then we move with pivoting sections to one side, up to the ear and to the vertical section that divides hair into hair falling to the sides and hair falling to the back of the head. And after that we move to the other side up to the vertical section and then stop. The next step is to separate the central section from the back of the head and again move with pivoting sections to one and to the other side up to the vertical section. We start from the first section and stand in front of the cutting angle so that we can see its silhouette.

Notice that the fingers copy the physiological roundness of the head. Weight and color are distributed evenly around the bone structure.

We move only up to the vertical section that divides hair into hair falling to the sides and hair falling to the back of the head, and then stop. A very frequent mistake is when the cutting angle is prolonged upward or to the face. You must not do it. The cutting angle is responsible for even distribution of weight and color around the shape. You must also watch the falling of hair. I am working with porous hair right now, that is why I will on purpose leave slightly longer length. This is maximum possible length for this design. The shortest possible length is one centimeter.

Pivoting sections go from the same point. Each section is directed back to the previous one and into the round geometry.
